How to Install Wire Brushed Hardwood Floors

Step 1: Gather the Necessary Tools and Materials

Step 2: Prepare the Subfloor

Ensure that the subfloor is clean, dry, and level. Remove any existing flooring and repair any damage or unevenness.

Step 3: Acclimate the Hardwood Flooring

Allow the wire brushed hardwood flooring to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours before installation.

Step 4: Install the Underlayment (if required)

If your flooring manufacturer recommends an underlayment, follow their instructions to install it properly.

Step 5: Lay the First Row

Start by measuring the width of the room and marking the center point. Use a chalk line to create a straight reference line. Begin laying the first row of wire brushed hardwood flooring along this line, leaving a 1/2-inch gap from the wall for expansion.

Step 6: Continue Installing the Flooring

Continue installing the wire brushed hardwood flooring, row by row, using a tapping block and hammer to ensure a tight fit. Stagger the end joints between rows for added stability.

Step 7: Trim and Fit the Last Row

Measure and cut the last row of flooring to fit. Use a pull bar to close the gaps and ensure a snug fit against the previous row.

Step 8: Secure the Flooring

Nail or staple the wire brushed hardwood flooring to the subfloor at regular intervals, following the manufacturer's recommendations. Use a nail punch to sink the nails below the surface.

Step 9: Fill Nail Holes and Sand the Floor

Fill any nail holes with wood putty and sand the entire floor to create a smooth surface.

Step 10: Apply Stain or Finish

If desired, apply a stain or finish to enhance the appearance and protect the wire brushed hardwood flooring. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application and drying times.
